Trust is the reason SitterPlus exists. This page explains how we screen sitters, how we protect families on the platform, and how to get help quickly if something isn't right.

How we verify every sitter

Government ID verification

Every sitter uploads a government-issued photo ID that is matched against a live selfie before their profile can go live.

Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Checks

Sitters complete a Canadian Criminal Record Check and, where available, a Vulnerable Sector Check through our screening partners.

CPR & First Aid certification

Sitters upload proof of current infant and child CPR and Standard First Aid training. Expired certifications trigger a re-verification.

References & interview

Every applicant supplies professional references and completes a video interview with our trust team before being accepted.

Safety features on the platform

  • In-app messaging. Keep conversations on SitterPlus so we have a record if a dispute arises.
  • Secure payments. Payments are processed through a licensed provider — no cash exchanges required.
  • Verified badges. Look for the ID, CPR, and Background Check badges on every sitter profile.
  • Reviews after every booking. Parents and sitters review each other so patterns of concern surface quickly.
  • Report a concern. Any user can report a profile or booking. Our trust team reviews every report.

Tips for parents

  • Read the sitter's profile, reviews, and verification badges before booking.
  • Meet or video chat before a first booking whenever possible.
  • Share allergies, medications, routines, and house rules in writing.
  • Leave emergency contacts and clear instructions for the sitter.
  • Trust your instincts. If something feels off, end the booking and report it.

  • Confirm children's ages, allergies, and routines before the booking.
  • Ask for emergency contacts and know the nearest hospital.
  • Keep communication and payments on the SitterPlus platform.
  • Never share personal financial information with parents directly.
  • Report unsafe conditions or requests immediately.

In an emergency

If a child is in immediate danger, call 9-1-1 first. SitterPlus is not a replacement for emergency services.
